Have you tried calling your school district to see if they have a similar program in Australia? Also it sounds that you Mum is not comfortable taking your education into her hands alone. I recommend that if there is no alternative for you for on-line homeschooling to look more closely at homeschooling philosophies and methods. This might give your Mum the confidence to take on your education solely. Try searching “homeschool philosophies” or “homeschooling methods”. I base my homeschooling methods from classical education and Charlotte Mason’s educational philosophies. Charlotte Mason was a british educator in the Victorian era. Her method’s are simple and straight forward. I should say too that the purpose of classical education is to make you a independant learner. You could use your library for most of your studies. I have also heard other Aussies state they had trouble finding homeschooling materials over there, it may not be such a large trend as in the U.S.A. Tori

The only distance education (online & correspondence) schools here are the ones run by the Christian schools (see below); and then only if you live in NSW, WA or Qld. There’s nothing whatsoever if you live in SA, NT, Vic, ACT or Tassy. Sorry.

To be homeschooled in SA, NT, Vic, ACT or Tassy, you’re only option is to homeschool ‘properly’ i.e. as defined by the law* and that means you have to be taught by your parent (or parent substitute) or by a state licensed teacher who is directly employed by your parent.

( * doing online school is not homeschooling under Aussie law; it is distance education. If you were to join an online school, Aussie law would see you as a private school student who just happened to do school at home rather than a ‘true’ homeschooler.)

Anyway the online/correspondence schools that are available to you here in Australia are:

    NSW
    Marsden Park Christian College:

    WA
    Southlands Christian College:
    Swan Christian College:

    Qld
    Moreton Christian College:
    Riverside Christian College:
    Groves Christian College:
    Jubilee Christian College:

Also if you happen to live near Fraser Coast or Wide Bay, there is a further school run by Hervey Bay Christian Academy in Pialba, but they don’t seem to have a website.

If you and your mum want a non-Christian school, the only one is the School of Distance Ed in Brissy ( ) but that’s pretty much only if you live in Qld, goes part-online and part by correspondence, and costs something like $3,000 a year. Hannah M
