What does one have to do to be qualified to home-school their children?
Welcome Isabella! March 30! asked:
I’m sure it varies from state to state…so what does one have to do to be qualified to home-school in California?
Oh please. Go away. What are you, the grammar police?

Good Question,
I don’t think there are any special requirements but there are many good blogs to help!
They are all maintained by Mimi Rothschild who is a great home school supporter who home schooled 8 kids then built an online homeschool to help parents ensure their kids get the best possible and even gain a state backed diploma-
If you feel your kids might miss something I would try out one of their programs. I use it for my daughter and she loves it and it helps me know she gets everything possible info wise.

All you must do is send in the form to declare your program a private school. There are no qualifications. You can also enroll in a private school satellite program.

Basically you are qualified to homeschool your children in California or any of the 50 states by becoming a parent.
Each state has their own laws that the parent has to follow. Some states are more homeschool friendly than others.
In Californina you actually have 4 options.
1. File a Private School Afidavit
2. Enroll in a Private Satellite School
3. Hire a private tutor
4. Enroll in an independent study program through the public school.
The best and most flexible option is the Private School Afidavit.
California has no Teacher Qualification or Standardized Testing requirements.
