Desiree asked:

There are some genuine cases where home schooling is really the only option, but religious people seem to have taken advantage of the system to willingly handicap their children by programming them with stupid religious beliefs and deliberately restricting the knowledge base from which their children can learn. Laws relating to home schooling were never intended to be twisted so that children with perfectly normal learning capabilities would be handicapped with primitive religious beliefs instead of the most modern educational resources. Should federal laws be passed so that religious people can’t exploit the system to carry out cruel and demented abuse of children in the name of religion?

I have many friends who home school or educate their children in privately. I also have several friends who no longer teach because of the violence, immorality, lack of parental involvement and overall dysfunction in public schools. They also bemoan the secular, politically correct agenda. I was educated in public schools, but not the same schools that exist today. If I had children; I would home school or send them to a private school. What is your opinion?
