Ok, my home school company provided me a computer (a crappy one with a HUGE firewall problem). It has ContentProtect on it. If I sign out of it, I can’t get online it completely shuts down my internet. I can see it blocking me from obvious adult content but this is ridiculous! I can’t go to www.tvguide.com because when I click listings it says the website is blocked because of “gambling” content. I like to check out the yahoo and cnn headlines online and when they were talking about Mark McGuire’s steroid issue I couldn’t even read the article because it was blocked and said it was related to “drugs”. This is crazy! What if one of my school classes assigns me a project and I choose to do it on steroids? It will be IMPOSSIBLE to do! I’m just trying to see whats on TV tonight for crying out loud. How should I ask my “School Advisor (every student is assigned one that updates your classes and sends the supplies you need to fulfill them) to remove/change the settings?

I just heard California passed a home school law that you cannot teach them as parents without a teaching degree, what are your opinions on this, and how will it affect the almost 2 million homeschooled children in the US?
Thank you all for answering, and most of all for the straight up, honest, well informed answers.
This is a scary ruling and although I have chosen not to home school my kids, I think its imperative we continue to have that right with our current public school quandries.
I can’t decide, so sending it to vote. Thanks

I go to a school with 13 people in my grade. I am consistently being made fun of and i just can’t do it. It is not just that i hate school for that reason it is because i dread going there, i hate the environment. I know you might say change schools but i really want to be home schooled. I think i cant focus when i am in school. How can i convince my parents to home school me?

I live in Canada. I’m debating whether to be home schooled for one year and that’s it. How much would a tutor cost? If I am home schooled it will just be for the next grade and then I’ll go to public school again next year.

However, my current home is a mobile home and it is not big enough for a classroom. There are several grants available for non-profit Christian organizations, which I hope to create, BUT would I be able to use the grant money to buy a bigger modular home to put on my property in order to give kids who are depressed, emotionally unstable, or have a hard time in public school a safe environment to come and learn with out charging them anything.

I am going to start homeschooling my 5 year old. What is the best advice you can give me? At times I feel very overwhelmed because I also have a 3 y/o and a 1 y/o. I know this is the right decision but sometimes I doubt my ability to teach her effectively.

Miss Mayhem asked: I am new to homeschooling my son, and I am involved with some local homeschooling groups. But, I am having some troubles with ideas on how to keep a schedule for my son and what to do with him during the day sometimes.
Do you think it is better to have a planned and scheduled cirriculum, just keep his days busy with stuff - crafts, reading, projects - and ditch a play by play schedule, or do you have any other more ecclectic ideas?

I’m thinking about starting up homeschooling again but I have no idea how to start up again. If anyone could tell me good websites where I can find good homeschooling products or curriculums that would be great because right now i’m not really sure what to do. I’m in 11th grade now and i’m planning on taking a few advanced placement classes (AP english, AP american history, and AP chemistry). Also if possible I would like it to have something with journalism but if not, i’ll live. Thanks to anyone that can help.
